The state of Florida and especially Polk County has strong military ties in the present and the past. According to a Veterans Day Census Survey, more than 1.5 million veterans reside in the sunshine state, each proud of their service, and willing to tell you about it. The Polk County History Center has developed an exhibition to collaborate with the State’s Victory Florida goal marking the 70 year anniversary of V-Day, or Victory Day, which marked the end of World War II in 1945. One proud Floridian, Dave Groves, tells us about his contribution to the World War II. Located at 100 East Main Street in Bartow, the history center is open Tuesday through Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The “Victory Florida” exhibition will run through September.
